Time needed: 30–45 minutes
Materials needed:
Setup:
When someone tries to sell you a product or idea, that’s called a pitch.
The first step to becoming a top cookie salesperson is having a good sales pitch. It’s what you’ll say to your customers to get them to buy your cookies.
The next step is to practice your sales pitch. Come up with your own pitch to tell your customers why they should buy cookies. What will you say to get their attention?
Make finger puppets and a mini cookie booth to practice your sales pitch.
Activity:
Use a ruler to draw rectangles on your paper, about 2.5 inches wide and 2 inches high.
Color your rectangles a light or neutral color if you want.
In each rectangle, create a panel in the center that’s the width of your finger. The two sides of your rectangle will wrap around your finger and be secured with tape.
Use a pen or a pencil to draw your person in the center panel. It can be a child or an adult. They will be your customers.
Make sure to draw one panel that represents you, too! You are the seller.
Add any colors you want for clothing, hair, and eyes.
Have an adult help cut the rectangle shapes out. Then wrap them around your fingers and tape the ends together. Put the “you” finger puppet on one hand and your customers on the other. If your puppets are wobbling on your fingers, you can stuff cotton balls between your fingers and puppets to keep them secure.
To create a mini cookie booth, fold one piece of colored construction paper in half to create a tent. This will be your cookie booth. If you want, use colored markers and stickers to decorate your booth.
Then, let the finger puppet sales show begin!
Start by making your pitch to your customers. Here are some things you might say:
Introduce yourself:
Hi, my name is _____ from Girl Scout Troop #____.
Say what you are selling and why they should buy it:
Girl Scout Cookies are really delicious and also help girls do great things!
Share how your troop will use your cookie money:
The money we earn will help my troop ________ and ________.
End with a thank you!
Then have an adult or friend pretend to be a customer and ask you these questions:
Reflection:
Think about these questions:
