Thanks to a generous grant, Girl Scouts of the USA is teaming up with Charles Schwab and its Founder to help bridge the financial literacy gap for Girl Scouts in grades K–12. With Charles Schwab’s support, Girl Scouts from all backgrounds will strengthen their money management skills and enhance their financial literacy, setting them up for financial success.
As reported in the Girl Scout Research Institute’s Having It All: Girls and Financial Literacy (PDF), girls are optimistic about their futures but lack the financial confidence and knowledge to achieve their dreams. Just half of girls surveyed felt confident making financial decisions—and only 12% felt very confident. Girl Scouts are also coming of age at a time when many distrust large financial institutions and think that debt is a normal part of life. Together, Girl Scouts and Charles Schwab will offer youth across the country financial literacy activities that will inspire and prepare them to become financial stewards in their own lives and that will fuel a lifelong financial empowerment journey.
