After a successful Girl Scout Cookie season, Troop 10706 of Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska decided to donate a portion of the earnings to the Riverside Discovery Center, a zoo in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Amber Schiltz, education curator at the zoo, said staff members were humbled when they heard the girls wanted to donate part of their hard-earned cookie money to the zoo. The zoo staff had presented an education program to the troop the previous fall and were impressed with the girls’ enthusiasm and readiness to learn.
Troop co-leader Teresa Henry said, “The girls were excited that they could help the zebra mom and her new baby by bringing celery and carrot treats, along with the dedicated donation. They were proud that they were able to contribute to the community and are planning another service project next year. They worked hard to sell the cookies this year, and it was a privilege to work with these dedicated girls.”
Sounds like you have a great team, Teresa! Thank you and your girls for your generosity and leadership. The zoo and the zebra are lucky to have friends like you.
