Activity Details
Time needed: Two hours or more
Materials needed:
- Access to research materials online or in print
- A journal or notebook
Setup: As a steward of the outdoors, you know water is a key component. Learning more about the role water plays in your environment is important to becoming an environmental advocate.
Activity:
Start by researching environmental issues online, in newspapers, or from a book from your local library. Or scroll through “Environmental Topics” on the Environmental Protection Agency’s website to read about issues such as climate change, rising sea levels, and water pollution.
Dive into an issue that affects the global ecosystem. An ecosystem includes plant and animal life but also refers to nonliving factors, like climate, soil, and water.
You might read about melting polar ice caps, unusual patterns of precipitation, desertification, or ocean acidification. What are some of the ripple effects (pun intended!) of global water issues? Keep track of your thoughts in a journal.
