About the Trip
This trip includes visits to three of the nine major islands in the archipelago: São Miguel, Faial, and Pico. Each volcanic island is distinct, but they all boast magnificent landscapes, mouthwatering foods, and exciting outdoor activities. Hike amid plumes of steam from the calderas, take to the sea for a whale-watching excursion, relax in thermal springs, kayak in crater lakes, explore lava caves, and marvel at the towering height of Mount Pico. With barely 5% of its land developed, the Azores are a must-see for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. After this outdoor adventure, you will visit the Portuguese capital of Lisbon, where you can scope out the local street art, hunt down some azulejos (brightly patterned tiles that have decorated the city since the 1490s), ride a yellow tram, listen to some fado music, and eat a delicious custard tart.
